Niue Island InformationNiue is reputedly one of the smallest countries in the world (with a population of less
than 2000) but its the biggest uplifted coral land mass on earth. It sits alone in the middle of the warm, clear waters of the South Pacific Ocean. Its rugged coastline gives it a character unlike any other South Pacific Island. Visitors to Niue discover sandy coves, caverns, reef swimming holes, lush rainforest & a friendly, easy going population who are happy to share their island with you. To find out more about Niue & its attractions visit the Niue Island Tourism site.
Many people come to Niue to encounter the humpback whales which visit the island every winter (July - October) to breed. The waters around Niue have been declared a whale sanctuary where all cetaceans are protected. These massive marine mammals often pass within metres of the shore putting on an impressive show from the island's many vantage points. For keen snorkellers, its possible to get within metres of the mothers and calves as they rest in the shallows. Niue is one of the few places in the world where there are no restrictions on interactions with the whales. Pods of spinner dolphins also inhabit the waters around Niue offering the opportunity to swim with these completely wild creatures.
